JF Designs Completes Online Presence for Thistle Theatre,
A non-profit children's theatre in Seattle, WA
BELLEVUE, WA July, 2003 — JF Designs was selected to design the web site for Seattle-based Thistle Theatre — a children's puppet theater company — and to provide the hosting services for their online presence, www.thistletheatre.org.
As part of their ongoing commitment and support for non-profit businesses and services, JF Designs was proud to be selected to design, develop and host the web site for the company. The project entailed a complete redesign of the company’s existing web site. An improved site architecture was constructed to help manage the production company’s HTML and image file documents that were in disarray, and cumbersome to maintain.
Drawing upon their skills with web site organization, JF Designs was able to produce a site that is very easy to maintain and update. The new site also features an ecommerce solution allowing the site visitors to purchase their show tickets online. The goal of the new site was to create a professional, yet playful interface that was appealing to both children and adults. JF Designs chose vibrant colors and photographs of the beautiful hand-crafted puppets that are created by Thistle Theatre, to provide a warm and friendly ambience that is reflective of the heart felt performances by the theatre’s masterful puppeteers, and their puppets.
“We are so excited by this new web site,” says Jean Enticknap, the creative director for Thistle Theatre ,”I know this will help bring much needed attention to this theater company. We have already received many comments on how easy it is to order tickets online. The staff at JF Designs has really come through for us on this.”
Each Thistle Theatre production brings together professional puppeteers, artists and musicians to create unique and diverse puppet theatre productions for the entire family. They offer productions that tour or are part of a puppet theatre season. Either way, the same level of artistry is presented.
They specialize in Bunraku, a variation of the ancient Japanese style of puppetry. The puppeteers are dressed head-to-toe in black and operate the puppets from behind. Good storytelling, realistic movement and excellent manipulation are the hallmarks of Thistle Theatre productions.
“The Bunraku is fascinating to watch,” says Jean Enticknap. “ Each production has many levels of understanding. Over half the season ticket holders are adults, and not all of them bring children! Quality theatre has no age limit. “
